Numerical Analysis of an Unstable Slope in San Pedro Garza García

GIT Geotecnia e Ingeniería del Terreno was hired to do a slope stability analysis and verify the possibility of landslides in a slope with a height of approximately 8m.

People living in the bottom part of the slope mentioned that small landslides occurred in the previous months, because of an inefficient storm drainage system of the houses built on the top of the slope.

The topographic profile was used to create a geomechanical model to conduct a slope stability analysis. The analysis was made with a finite element method commercial Asian geotechnical software.

The soil layer represented with color blue is clay exposed to collected water from the inefficient storm drainage system on the top of the slope and rainwater as well.

The results of the analysis was a maximum calculated horizontal displacement of 53mm. Landslides will continue occuring unless a new storm drainage system and anchored concrete retaining system is built.
